1. Are you applying as a Wyoming resident or nonresident?

2. How many Wyoming elk preference points do you currently have? Enter 0 if you don't have any yet.

3. Wyoming lets you apply for the same unit in one of two ways: the regular draw, or the "special" draw. The special license costs more (about $1,950 vs $692 for the elk license) but units usually draw out at fewer points. Your point total is the same either way, and there is no difference between the licenses once you draw. When a unit is clearly better or easier to draw with in the special draw, how would you like to weigh the extra cost?

Cost isn't the deciding factor. Put me on the best tag, regular or special. I'll pay extra for the special draw when it clearly gets me a better or surer hunt, but not just to spend money. Keep me in the regular draw. I'd rather save the money than pay extra for the special tag.

4. Some hunters need a tag in hand this fall. Others would rather hold out for a better or harder-to-draw unit, even if it means possibly not drawing at all this year. Where are you?

I need to plan a hunt this fall. Point me at a tag I'm very likely to draw. I'd take a good tag I'll probably draw, but I'm open to a longer shot if it's worth it. I'm playing the long game. I'll gamble, or sit a year out, for a shot at a better unit.

5. How many more years do you realistically expect to keep applying for and chasing Western tags? This sets what your points are worth. If a dream unit is a dozen years away and you've only got a few left, we won't tell you to keep waiting on it.
